"What She Said" & "Compassion"

‘What She Said’ is a poetic, sensual and reflective dance performance that addresses discourses of beauty, how these define relations of power in society, and their shadow aspects.
It addresses ideas of beauty in relation to capitalistic production, genetic reproduction, and inner beauty in relation to God and spirituality.
The narrative is colored with a critical approach & reflects the artist's position as a Black Biracial Cis Female.
The piece is the first auto-choreographed solo by Marie Kaae, and a personal project inspired by her previous sociological research.
In this piece she explores a wide range of dance vocabularies related to Black American Club Dance genres, and spoken word.

Marie Kaae is an award-winning dancer and choreographer with a background in Street and Club dance genres, specializing in House dance. With over 20 years of experience as a performing artist, Marie has been actively facilitating nightclub events in Copenhagen and Paris since 2010. Former choreographic works includes the duet ROOTS and the recent interdisciplinary music- and dance piece WIRED in which she also shared the stage.

Compassion - A rhythmically insistent, sensuous bombardment on the concept of compassion. About hope and indispensable humanity.

Video scenography with Al Agami performing texts by Tor Nørretranders on compassion creates a compelling pulse. On stage, dancers Joanna Skywalker (SE), Malthe Ørsted, and director/choreographer Steen Koerner perform together with students from the Hotsteppers Dance Education. The universe is completed by composer Yo Akim, contributing live with intense, captivating grooves in Peter Reinhardt’s lighting design.

“When you move, you move me
I don’t just repeat or mirror your movements
It’s a dialogue, a conversation of bodies
Compassion is hearts and mind dancing - I dare to care for you”
