The end is near. Join us for a joint finissage at Nikolaj Kunsthal on Thursday 26 March, 16:00–19:00. Together, we’ll bid a proper farewell to our current exhibitions — making room for new and exciting art experiences. Free admission

Before we turn the page to a new exhibition season, we invite you to join us for a celebratory finissage at Nikolaj Kunsthal on Thursday 26 March, 16:00-19:00. Let’s gather for one last look at our current exhibitions — with music, performances and guided tours.

For the occasion, we’ve added a few special highlights:

  • Join a guided tour of "Københavnerstykker II" with Sebastian Quedenbaum, who knows the City of Copenhagen’s growing art collection inside out. He administers the Council for Visual Arts and oversees the systematic acquisition of contemporary art displayed across the municipality’s institutions and workplaces — from libraries and treatment centres to job centres, schools and mayoral offices — for the benefit of staff, users and citizens alike.
  • As a sensorial finale, experience a poetry concert by Det Bliver Mellem Os, a poetic quartet working in an intense hybrid format of readings, songs and choral chanting. Their practice nuances perspectives on girlhood and the female body, creating an intimate space that moves between vulnerability and force, hope and mourning, eroticism and unease. For this special occasion, they will also make use of Nikolaj Kunsthal’s historic 1931 Markussen & Søn organ. The quartet consists of Marie Louise Tüxen (poet and singer), Tanja Thulau Vesterdahl (singer), Allin Bang (composer and pianist) and Anders Singh Vesterdahl (accordion and percussion).
  • You can also experience a performance created through a collaboration between visual artist Cecilie Penney and theatre director Karoline C. Holland. The performance takes its point of departure in Penney’s exhibition of the same title, which serves as scenography — expanding and embodying the work. At its core is an encounter between the modern hospital, performed by Penney, and the early 20th-century sanatorium, appearing as a ghost from the past. Through a dialogue between present and past, the work explores the nature of institutions in a space where history continues to resonate. The performance is supported by Danske Sceneinstruktører.

Admission is free throughout the building, and our bar will offer generously priced drinks, including beer from Depanneur, wine and sparkling wine. Everyone is welcome.

Both exhibitions remain on view until Sunday 6 April at 17:00. Nikolaj Kunsthal will then close briefly to prepare new exhibitions, including the opening of Alison Knowles: Retrospektiv 1960–2022 on Friday 24 April.

Stay tuned for upcoming exhibitions and events at nikolajkunsthal.dk.
