Micahela Turcerová + Anders Bach ¦ Vinterjazz in Union

Final Descent presents two experimental acts, each exploring the tactile qualities of sound in their own unique way.

Michaela Turcerová and Simon Mariegaard's technical expansion of the saxophone's sonic palette takes the audience on a journey through kaleidoscopic rhythmic patterns and subtle overtones, while Anders Bach, in a rare solo concert, showcases his crystal-clear sound universe in a 360-degree setup.

Michaela Turcerová (SK)

With the project Alene Et, Slovenian saxophonist Michaela Turcerová, in collaboration with Simon Mariegaard, demonstrates a distinctive and unique musical language, where the sonic universe of the solitary acoustic saxophone is explored and expanded. Through experimental microphone setups, the saxophone’s hidden acoustic properties are amplified, unfolding into otherworldly and crystal-clear explorations of the instrument’s possibilities. From distorted, almost aggressive percussive sequences played on the valves to rustling noise, where amplified delicacy reveals hypnotic, subtle overtones.

Over the years, Michaela Turcerová has established herself as a prominent figure in Copenhagen’s experimental music and jazz scene, notably as a member of the group Alawari. Regarding her first solo release, the renowned music blog The Quietus writes: “Her marriage of the organic and the electronic and her ability to manipulate the sax so deftly to challenge the listener’s expectations are admirable.”

Anders Bach (DK)

Anders Bach is a musician and producer, who for the past 15 years has been a prominent voice on the Danish popular and experimental music scenes. Anders approaches a communal, manic intimacy in his music, which most often is situated between genre-specific productions and free improvisation. He has garnered national and international renown through collaborations with names such as SVIN, Jonas Eika, MØ, Aar & Dag, Peter Sommer, Keiji Haino, Sleep Party People and Selvhenter. In 2023 he released the album "Bitumenic" under the moniker GNOM (Don't Look Back Records) as well as "Multi" with the duo H E X (Wetwear).

He is one half of the Copenhagen label Wetwear, through which the releases "108" with Anders Bach and Kota Yamauchi and "BLDG" with H E X have been nominated for Danish Music Awards. In addition, Anders was nominated in 2019 for a Danish Critics Choice Award (Steppeulv) as Musician of the Year. He is currently making music for the video game "Esoteric Ebb" in collaboration with Brian Batz and Kristian Paulsen, and he is a PhD student at the University of Copenhagen. Anders' academic work revolves around electronic music, internet genres and connections between aesthetics and economy in the age of the platform.

For this concert, Anders will perform in a quadrophonic speaker setup centered around the Buchla Music Easel and a stream of diffusing digital effects. This setup will facilitate a series of improvised and newly composed motifs.
