Ayi Solomon – rhythms from Ghana to Copenhagen

The charismatic percussionist Ayi Solomon was born and raised in Accra, Ghana, where his musical journey began. As a self-taught musician, he has been creating rhythms, energy and presence for more than 50 years – and since arriving in Copenhagen in 1982 with the reggae band Classique Vibes, he has been a central figure on the Danish jazz and world music scene.

Ayi Solomon has worked with some of the biggest names in Danish music, including Pierre Dørge's New Jungle Orchestra, Palle Mikkelborg, Moussa Diallo and Bo Stief, and he has also shared the stage with international profiles such as Adam Nussbaum, Jerry Bergonzi and Randy Brecker.

As a soloist, he has released four critically acclaimed albums – Back Home, Themes of Hope, Life Force and Birth Code – as well as a number of singles, most recently New Birth (2025).

On 12 November 2025, audiences at Paradise Jazz Copenhagen can look forward to experiencing Ayi Solomon and his explosive five-piece ensemble, who bring a captivating mix of African rhythms, jazz and funk – played with genuine warmth, energy and joy.
