“i!” is a concert series in three acts where the newly written piece “i!” will be performed three afternoons in a row by three different bands with completely different instrumentations. Long passages of cyclical, beautiful melodies, repetitive, dancy patterns, and lush timbres will pull the listener into a space where the focus is on the details and the textures of the music. The shifting instrumentation is an invitation to visit the performance multiple days and experience the piece as it unfolds in changing timbres by the hands of the different musicians.
During the festival, the venue will be transformed by scenographer Kristina Freese who has been working in the Copenhagen theatre scene for the last six years as a part of the group MAGMA and in various other projects.
The piece is written by composer and musician Johannes Østlund Jacobsen (Great Gestures) who will be playing percussion and keys throughout all three performances of the piece. The rest of the musicians are carefully selected from a new generation of musicians in Copenhagen and Århus who play with curiosity and mix genres ranging from pop, folk, jazz, rock and various experimental music.
Johannes Østlund Jacobsen is a musician who works as a part of the bands Kindsight, Bending Backwards, Psychobillyjazz 3 and Eloise Park Project. Going by the name of “Great Gestures”, he has released two EP’s (the latter on the Copenhagen cassette-label: “Afvikling Kassetter”) and challenged ordinary concert formats by combining a rock band setup with a surround system of guitar amps. This project will dial it all down and make the experience intimate, acoustic and tactile, as the music unfolds in the small room on the first floor in Kraftwerket.
The concerts are arranged by the collective “Movement Shaped Like a Heart” in collaboration with Kraftwerket and with support from Valby Lokalpulje.
