Borguefül (FR)

Solo bass excursions and powerful vocals collide in Borguefül's mystical universe, combining free improvisation with traditional French singing.

Borguefül is the solo project of French double bassist and vocalist Mélanie Loisel. Drawing from free improvisation, contemporary composition, and the raw pulse of traditional song, Borguefül unfolds a world of dissonances, strange syllables and visceral soundscapes. Voice and double bass merge in earthy, hypnotic layers — rasping, droning, whispering, erupting — evoking rain, stone, wind, and monsters.

Sung in a revisited patois from Haute-Loire, the music vibrates with deep textures and fractured melodies, rooted in ritual, shadow, and soil. It's both ancient and experimental: a rough cartography of sensation, shaped by breath, bowed strings, and silence.

Released on Pagans Records and La République des Granges, the debut album Horst introduced Borguefül as a fierce and singular voice on the outer edges of folk and noise.
